Position Overview

We're looking for an experienced Forestry Mulcher Operator / Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating skid steers, forestry mulchers, and other heavy equipment in land clearing applications.

This role requires transporting equipment to job sites, so a valid CDL is required.

This is a per-job position – you'll be scheduled to work on days when jobs are booked. This is ideal for someone looking for flexible, well-paying work without a traditional 9-5 commitment. As we grow, there's potential for increased hours and a full-time role.

Responsibilities

Equipment Operation & Job Execution

  • Operate forestry mulching equipment (skid steer mounted mulchers, track loaders)
  • Clear brush, trees, and vegetation on various project types
  • Identify and verify property lines before beginning work
  • Understand site restrictions (setbacks, buffer zones, easements)
  • Load, transport, and unload equipment (CDL required)
  • Conduct daily pre-operation inspections
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs

Customer Service & Communication

  • Represent Piedmont Mulching professionally on every job site
  • Communicate clearly with customers before, during, and after jobs
  • Walk the property with customers to confirm scope of work
  • Identify and communicate upsell opportunities
  • Educate customers on forestry mulching benefits
  • Handle customer concerns with professionalism

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate daily logs of work completed
  • Take before/after photos of completed work
  • Document additional work opportunities
  • Report equipment issues or maintenance needs promptly

Requirements

Required

  • Valid Class A or B CDL with clean driving record
  • 2+ years experience operating heavy equipment
  • Ability to read site maps and identify property lines
  • Experience hauling heavy equipment trailers
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physically able to lift 50+ lbs
  • Reliable transportation to Monroe, NC area
  • Smartphone for photos and communication
  • Must pass background check and drug screening

Preferred

  • Experience with forestry mulching or land clearing
  • Chainsaw experience and certification
  • Experience with FAE, Fecon, or Denis Cimaf equipment
  • Knowledge of local vegetation and invasive species
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Travel Radius
~60 miles from Monroe

Typical day: Pick up equipment from storage site → Drive to job → Complete work → Return equipment → Leave from there

No requirement to report to an office – you'll coordinate via phone/text. Job sites are located throughout Union County, Mecklenburg County, and surrounding areas.

Potential for increased hours and full-time role as the company grows.
